I believe every human being is either called or compelled to be of service to others. No matter what belief or profession, there is an underlying narrative in our core to put ourselves out there in hopes of benefiting from something of importance. I’m Pierre Gilson Jr., and I’ve worked with DX Faith Network since July 2022. I can truthfully say that when working with over twenty passionate creatives and future showrunners, their hopes and dreams are embodied within their shows—the importance of helping them make that a reality motivates me in more ways than I can count.

DX Faith Network’s mission to highlight Black and other voices of color is critical in media. I have been working in Hollywood for four years and the voices of marginalized communities, although they are becoming more apparent, still have a long way to go. I came into DX Faith as a script consultant before becoming one of the producers. This assignment was for content creators, podcasters, and influencers. The goal was, and still is, to make them TV showrunners! They were eager to see their concepts on the silver screen, but little did they know all the labor it takes to turn a vision into television. I work my days as a full-time writer and story consultant, but DX Faith made me a teacher.

Thank God for my MFA in Screenwriting. I think that would be considered a full-circle moment. I’ve spoken one-on-one with the creatives about the premise and ins and outs of pre-production, production, and post-production and why they create. They are passionate about their faith, their culture, and their people. These things also embody my own creed and have given me the perspective to learn more about what makes their stories so unique. I do believe that God works in ways that only benefit Him, and rightfully so. I know I signed on with DX Faith to push more of God’s word within filmmaking. It isn’t a mystery why most shows on networks and streaming services are rarely faith-based and often feature an anti-hero for the sake of watching someone do something terrible. DX truthfully wants to showcase various perspectives; we’ll call them “Narrative-Driven Testimonies” for today. I enjoy meeting creatives of diverse backgrounds and ideas, but their driving force for their cause is raw and fresh. This component makes it less of a struggle when putting their scripts together because they know they must sacrifice certain things to make something worthy of production.

The art of film and television is nothing without the people behind it. In Hollywood, there is an emotional wall everyone has to keep up because it can be a very cutthroat city. A lot of people leave because of it. I had to understand that these walls don’t always have to be there, especially when you can see that you have others who share the same ambition or goals. DX Faith has excelled in gathering ambitious individuals, which is a rarity in show business because even though it is a business, the stories and their storytellers need to come first.
